Tapestry Gallant scene
Gallant Scenes, a tapestry woven after an early 15th-century hanging. It depicts a lady receiving a casket from her page, amidst foliage and flowers, where a couple approaches the lady and the page. All the figures are dressed in the Italian style, a fashion introduced to France after the conquest of Naples by Charles VIII in 1495.
This tapestry was woven in a workshop in Northern France on a Jacquard loom. It is lined and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
This tapestry hung in a dining room for several years. It is very old (over 25 years). The colors are still very vibrant. However, the tapestry shows some signs of wear (a few broken threads). This is only visible upon close inspection. The hanging system is unique: small, heart-shaped brass hooks.
