A fine representation of this painting in tapestry form… Marie-Thérèse was Picasso’s “golden muse”. She was Picasso’s model wife and lover, with whom he had a child. This woman inspired one of the most prolific and celebrated outpourings of creativity in 20th-century art.
This work represents a a portrait that is both intimate and aesthetically objective. Indeed, Marie-Thérèse is depicted through volumetric shapes in bright colors, adjusted by realistic details such as her hat and coat. The work also bears witness to the inventiveness that led Picasso to depict Marie-Thérèse on several occasions – in paint, on paper and in plaster – in search of new modes of visual expression.
