This piece is based on two Beauvais tapestries from the mid-19th century, one of which is now in the Musée d’Orsay. This is Vase avec fleurs et fruits, woven in 1873 and inspired by Monnoyer’s painting Vase d’or, fleurs et fruits. The Mandoline is based on parts of the original. The original wide border was designed by Chabal-Dussurgey and Godefroy. The precision of the Point de Flandres, the richness of the border and the profusion of colors give a dazzling appearance to this much-loved tapestry.
