In the 17th century, Albert Eckhout was responsible for the cartoons forming a series of 8 tapestries known as “Les Tentures des Indes”, woven by the Gobelins workshops. One of these is reproduced in this large, colorful tapestry. The tapestry depicts the exotic flora and fauna of the Dutch colonies.
