In August 1667, the city of Lille (in the background of the tapestry) was taken from the Spanish by the French, under the reign of King Louis XIV. The latter, accompanied by Turenne and Vauban, is depicted here. The work is part of a series of 14 tapestries on the “History of the King”, woven by theGobelins workshop in the 17th century.
