The motif for this tapestry was inspired by the work of Paul Cézanne, French painter, 1839-1906. Still lifes occupy a privileged place in Cézanne’s work. He paints familiar objects, fruit, cups, glasses, tablecloths… that he has laid out on a table. Their immobility allowed him to deepen his art. His work on light, composition, modeling and perspective made him a precursor of Cubism. It was his still lifes, the first of his kind, that brought him worldwide recognition.
