William Morris designed the cartoons for Pivert, woven in 1885. This motif, with its dense plant background reminiscent of Renaissance broad-leaved greenery, features virtually non-existent perspective effects. The importance of this background also recalls the large flowering plants and blossoming foliage of early 16th-century Brussels verdures. William Morris used a limited range of colors, dominated by bright reds, blues and greens.
